choosing to work predominately with that which would otherwise go to waste, Coates leans more towards the experimentation of a technique than the pursuit of a specific concept or result. each piece thus taking on the shape of small samples, clusters and collages aimed at the exploration and documentation of a given process, material, colour or use.
